Epilepsy defining the difference between a good friend and a bad friend

Bad friends are unreliable their fair weather friends who disappear at the first sign of trouble. Hear about your disability and decide it could cause them some form of embarrassment. I heard a story recently I was at the Epilepsy nurses office being weaned cold turkey off the Epilepsy medicines I was on. He told me a story I'll never forget. He told me about an epileptic patient he had and this patient was getting married, it was his honeymoon. The night before he'd had a seizure. Some epileptics still find it hard controlling their bowels after a seizure. During the seizure he'd wet himself and his friends had come in at night to change his bed sheets. This is not a pre requisite for all friendships, but this says a lot about the character of the people he chose to invest in.  Friendship is about empathy, understanding and love, your friends are able to take the time to understand you just as it is important you take the time to understand them. Listen to them, support them, but make it clear that it's alright for you to expect the same. You are more than a disability, you are a person with wants and needs, requests, desires, and standards of living. When your friends need you, you will be there. Support them, engage with them, try to understand their fears and their vulnerabilities.
