how heaven helps those who help themselves

What are your epileptic triggers? I'm a great believer in the old adage heaven helps those who help themselves. For most epileptics a bright one is stress. How do you handle your stress? Lack of sleep, alcohol, flashing lights. How I deal you avoid the things that damage you and counter attack the things your finding it hard to contain. For example with me being on Zonisamide makes my brain feel as though it's on a razor edge, although it is supposed to intensify fatigue, zonisamide makes it difficult to sleep at times. Therefore I do activities meant to tire me. Like exercise, working out consistently, wether its on the stepladder, wether it's a boxing/ kickboxing workout, activity is key. Epilepsy nurses, doctors, neurologists are extremely supportive, they are great sources of of Information and resource. Yet the reality is they have not found a cure for epilepsy and although Doctors hate to announce it they have not found a cure for epilepsy, so you have to facilitate yourself. Do your research, find out what foods can be Triggers. Stop abusing sugar if you do, for example I used to drink a lot of Lucozade to counter the fatigue I felt with my epilepsy medications. I would feel a temporary burst of energy then it would add to my inability to sleep. Whatever side effects you are dealing with speak to your doctor, neurologist or Epilepsy nurse. Ask as many questions as you need to, go to as many Epileptic group meetings as possible. Don't be scared to ask for help.
