Sizing Up your Seizures: How to explain your seizures without terrifying other people

" I can't deal with it, if it starts happening, I'm gonna have to drop you off home okay?"
There was panic and hysteria in my 'best friend's voice every time I would explain the pang of an oncoming seizure. The tremors jerked spasmodically up my limbs.

Dressed in our nines, impersonating variations of the selves we wanted to be, we would hit the Night life. Tear up the Clubs. My friend enjoyed the buoyant music and the sextacy of limbs. The noise blocked out a lot of her pain. She was a Shadow for mine.Despite my forced attempts at Correlating closeness nothing could conceal that I had found a friend who seemed both irritated and agitated by my epileptic episodes; yet would rather my company than be alone. I always dreaded the phone call to cancel a club night.I'd be filled with Guilt and Shame as my Disability made me unreliable. A place I knew I couldn't bare to be most of the time, but the change of scenery was highly recommended. It was the silent treatment I'd resent whenever I'd cancel, as though I were strategically trying to punish her with my want to maintain good health rather than parading ourselves in the clubs.

How do you explain to your friends without freaking them out about the epilepsy and your situation?

First of all take the pressure off their shoulders. The illusion people have with epilepsy is the perception that if they don't play Super hero and save your life you will instantly die. For those few minutes it can be quite graphic. All they have to do is place something under your head to cushion you if the seizures are Grand Mal, turn you over on your side once the seizure is through so you can breathe properly and call the ambulance. The key role is in the work of the ambulance. If they sense a seizure is coming on or you do, ask them to steer you to a safe location where they can cushion your fall, if you suffer with Grand Mal tonic chlonic seizures. If you are having myoclonic jerk episodes make sure all things are kept as far away from you as possible, and you are not accessible to Sharp objects. If they have access to some chamomile tea, it would be useful, as it soothes the nerves or as I stated earlier a fan to cool your head.
